Daily Photography

A photo each and every day, for a few years.

While it seems like everyone has a photoblog these days, a few years ago it wasn't the case. And a few years ago, I was better off developing my own photoblog software than using available off-the-shelf tools.

Sample page from the Daily Photography website.

This website is a

  • searchable photoblog, photography gallery and archives repository
  • simple content management system
Launch the website.

The site was built to accomodate a few desires.

  1. To put existing PHP and MySQL knowledge into a real-world test environment.
  2. To build a custom blog application after not being satisfied with the state of currently available blogging applications (circa 2003).
  3. To encourage regular photography experiments by way of an imposed daily deadline.

Over its lifespan the site saw one major interface design revision and a number of technical changes. The technical changes were made to accomodate extremely high bandwidth requirements and spam attacks.

In short, I was responsible for everything. Meaning: site design, development, programming and of course, all the photography featured on the site.
